We are Minnesotans advocating for the creation of a new Minnesota license plate that “celebrates the North Shore and Lake Superior Agate”.

This campaign seeks to amend, with the support of the MN DNR, an existing DNR public design contest for the creation of a new State Parks & Trails plate to “celebrate our North Shore and the Lake Superior Agate”.

Celebrate Minnesota’s State Gem: The Lake Superior Agate

Friends of the Lake Superior Agate Plate is dedicated to promoting a new license plate design that honors Minnesota’s state gemstone and the North Shore. H.F. No. 3699 was introduced by Rep. David Gottfried (40B) and Rep. Alex Falconer (49B) on 2/25/26 in the MN House of Representatives.

Thank you Sen. Grant Hauschild (03), Sen. Mary Kunesh (39) Sen. John Marty (40) and Sen. Jeremy Miller(26) for introducing SF 4374 which states, “The commissioner of natural resources must hold a license plate design contest to design a new state park license plate available under Minnesota Statutes, section 168.1295,subdivision 1. The license plate design must celebrate the North Shore and the Lake Superior Agate.”

SF 4374 was passed unanimously by the “Environment, Legacy and Climate Committee” of the Minnesota State Senate on March 24th and is now awaiting a vote on the Senate floor. You can read the unofficial meeting minutes HERE.
